Hi folks. I'm refinishing some Maruman woods to play with. The 5 wood has what seems to be a crack in the head behind the face plate. The varnish was broken over the crack before I removed it so it looks like there was movement there at some time. I've attached a picture. My current plan is to drill out the area around the crack and fill with liquid epoxy. I'd appreciate your views on this approach.

I would not try to repair the crack unless it gets larger. In my opinion you should, not alter a club just to make it shine. It usually results in altering the playability.Replacing a shaft in persimmon frequently ruins the club.

Thanks for your response. I will do exactly that.
Hey Eddy. You’d really need to remove the face insert to know the extent of the crack. I’d be willing to bet that the crack goes down a few millimeters behind the insert.
I have fixed a crack like this before. I removed the insert, drilled a couple of small bores into the crack behind the insert and then epoxied the insert back into place. The club was then refinished a solid color so there was no evidence of the crack.
